White Castle is a restaurant characterized by ridiculously cheap square cheeseburgers known as “Slyders.” There are many White Castle restaurants located in the northeastern part of the United States. The dining area looks like it was designed in the ‘60s and hasn’t changed since. White Castle is much like McDonald’s.
The first White Castle was founded in Wichita, Kansas in 1921 by Walter Anderson. Because of Upton Sinclair’s novel The Jungle, which scared people away from the meat-packing industry, the interior of a White Castle has white walls and stainless steel equipment to appear sanitary. White Castle serves many other items such as onion rings and french fries. The Slyders are prepared using steam to pass through the lower layer of onions and fill the meat patty and bun with onion flavor. Slyders were priced at five cents until the ‘40s. Now, a Slyder can be purchased for 49 cents.
My friend and I drove through the night across the state of Missouri bound for West Virginia. It was 3 a.m. and the road left us weary. I squinted my eyes, trying to read a sign featuring a large white castle. We had drunk six Monster energy drinks and we needed food. White Castle was open even at this hour. The Slyders were satisfying, much like cheap gas-station toilet paper is because it’s there when you need it. The dining area was clean and the employees were well-dressed.
The Slyders are small and inexpensive, so I ate ten of them. Because of this temptation to eat many Slyders, the restaurant may not be a good choice for health-conscious consumers. My friend told me the burgers were called Slyders because they slide directly through your digestive system. I was laughing then, but 80 miles down the road I was reading poems on the walls of a gas station restroom wishing I would have stopped at four. For what it’s worth, eat responsibly.
I recommend this restaurant to those who appreciate inexpensive food and enjoy an interesting dining experience. |

This is my favorite restuarant ever it is the best i hope they make enough money to add more or bring more in to Colorado that would be the best especially 4 or 5 around the rocky mountains so when hikers are taking a break they can get a bite to eat and something to drink that would be great. please try my request and if it doesnt work out thats ok to just try to bring more in my dream would come true. and that would be great because i love whit castle and if my dream came true it would make my week thanks. |
